Best of Both Worlds - Part 2

Big T trolled around Etsy.com a second time to see what sort of unique Twilight Saga goodies are being offered now that "New Moon" has been released in theaters.

These cute bookmarks come in a set of 12 from KreepyKids.etsy.com. Keep some for yourself and share the rest with your favorite Twilight friends!

Get this custom iron-on decal from graphxfairy.etsy.com and brag to all your pals about the awesome date you and Jacob had last night!

Shout it loud and proud that you are Team Jacob with this cute vinyl sticker for laptops. Snatch one up at vinylfruit.etsy.com today.

This sculpture set represents the struggle between Edward and Jacob for Bella's heart. Who will be the ultimate victor? See gimpyvicki123.etsy.com for more info.

Add some class to your house or apartment with this Andy Warhol-esque poster of Edward. Can also be printed in black and white for you "serious" types out there. vadairchi.etsy.com is the place to go for this eye-popping awesomeness.

Doesn't that brooding stare make you want to spill all of your secrets? You can scribble your sweet nothings to Edward within the pages of this beautiful journal from Silverfir.etsy.com. Full disclosure: the talented woman who makes these journals is a friend of mine, but just because she hangs out with riff-raff like me shouldn't stop you from snagging this bad boy.

I'm not a drinker, but I might reconsider that choice if someone gave me these wine glass charms from RachelRossiDesigns.etsy.com. Hello, Cullen men!

Werewolf instructions made easy by ShabbySneakers.etsy.com! My undying love of Edward aside, I may have to get one of these iron-ons just for the fun of it.

Giving Back

Edward is now back from his vacation in Florida as he was hanging out with Little T and Big C the other day. I, however, have not seen hide nor hair of him. Our favorite little vampire must have read my last post and sensed my annoyance, though, because I got an interesting email from him this morning.

Seems Edward felt guilty about causing me such distress during our camping trip with the students and he wanted to prove to me that he isn't selfish and lazy. He wrote that upon further reflection of the situation, he wanted to make amends with me by mentoring student readers.

Oh Edward, you know me well. Doing something that encourages children to read is a sure way to my heart.

Edward and Jesse listen as Zane reads from "The Foot Book". Fun Fact: Edward is a big fan of Dr. Seuss and he owns a copy of every Seuss book printed!

Trying to help Zane figure out a word, Edward gives him a visual clue.

Zane, I'd be smiling too, if Edward was reading with me.

A Camping We Will Go

Edward is a pretty lucky guy. Whenever Big T or Little T get roped into a field trip for work, he usually gets to travel with us.

Back in October, Big T went with a group of students to an overnight camp for 3 days and 2 nights. Edward, who likes to think of himself as an outdoors man, jumped at the chance to get away from the city and offered to help wrangle children.

As you can see from the pictures below, he spent more time eating than actually communing with nature or assisting kids.

Scoping out the snack machine while the students learn about pond creatures. He kept bumming quarters off me to get KitKats.

According to Edward, s'mores taste best on a moonlit night. He was our designated golden brown marshmallow cooker since he could sit so close to the fire for long periods of time without being bothered by the constant smoke and sparks.
Keeping up his human appearances, Edward dutifully eats a plate full of enchiladas and churritos while a student looks on. He plans on munching some "real food" later that night.

Basking in the warm glow of the lights, Edward enjoys his real dinner after our campers went to bed.

Overall, Edward was more of a hindrance than a help on this trip. He would steal the girls' stuffed animals and make them sing or recite poetry for him in order to get their toys back. I caught him trying to sneak into the animal exhibit more than once during our stay, but of course he just wanted a closer look at the tortoise - sure, Edward. And he insisted on sleeping in the top bunk in our cabin, even though he knew I really wanted it. The final straw was when he rummaged around in my overnight bag to steal my reading book because he forgot his at home.
As much as I adore Edward, I don't think he'll be joining me on any more camping trips.

Time Keeps on Slippin'

Again the real world has overtaken my life, leaving little time to report on Twilight saga news. Of course Little T and I went to the midnight screening of New Moon. Our group of teen girls, ladies, and two lucky teen boys had fun chatting in the dark theater, playing with our Twilight action figures, and taking pictures until the movie began. I won't go into too many details since I plan on creating a separate post.

Edward and Jacob joined Little T and myself at a wedding back in November. It was a lovely ceremony and the best reception I've ever attended. It may have had something to do with the fellas that were with me, but I could be wrong. Again, that will get a whole post.

What else, what else... oh, yes! Edward journeyed to Chicago for a getaway with Little T and Big C. He occasionally likes to visit his human hometown. And he also has been spending some time at Disney World. He left a few days ago and I'm not sure when he'll be back. Jacob and I have been spending some one on one time together and I can now relate to Bella's predicament.

These posts will be coming over the next week or so, whenever "real life" gives me a few moments to catch up. Enjoy the holidays! ~Big T

Interview with a Vampire (Lover) #2

Another Twilight fanatic friend of ours has graciously agreed to take part in a pre-New Moon interview. Erin is the mother of a pretty cool 10 year son who we won't name here because he is not a fan of Twilight. She did a lot of things right with that kid, but for her to raise a boy with no admiration of Edward... unfathomable. Erin is a great lady, not only because she shares an obsession with us, but because she is compassionate, can joke around with people, and perseveres.

Are you Team Edward, Team Jacob, or have room in your heart for both? Humm..that's a hard one. On one hand, who doesn't LOVE Edward? After all, I'm a sucker for great facial structure and cheek bones...but I can't deny the fact that Jacob never left Bella-and I think that kind of commitment is rare. But, in the end, I'm a sucker (no pun intended) for a bad boy, and I have to go with Edward...

What do you like about the Twilight Saga? I really enjoyed this book series. I like that I got obsessed about reading-I was actually attached to the series for a week.

Bigger fan of the books or the movie? Why? The books-no brainer! Book are always better than the movie!

Is there a particular scene from the New Moon book that you are hoping to see in the movie? I am excited to see how they portray the scenes in Italy and with the Volturi.

Why are you going to the midnight showing versus staying in your comfy bed? Another no brainer-I will be forgoing my comfy bed to see the movie first.

Describe the perfect day with Edward or Jacob (pick your favorite man). (he, he, he...Edward..sigh) I'd have to say something dangerous..but then, isn't just being with Edward dangerous?

est vampire trait (in your opinion) and which Cullen family member do you relate to the most? Why? According to the facebook quizzes, I am most like Edward...but I don't think I have the brooding, dangerous look...I'd have to say Alice, because I'm always trying to control the future...and if I was Alice, I'd already know it...

Interview With A Vampire (Lover) #1

As Little T pointed out to me today, only one more month until the New Moon movie comes out!!! In order to ramp ourselves up for the big evening, Adventures in Twilightland will be featuring interviews with some of the lovely ladies who will be joining Big T and Little T for the midnight screening.

First up is NK. How can I describe her... emotionally strong, fiercely loyal, hilarious when the mood strikes her, devoted to her family, and most importantly - a Twilight fan.

How do you want to be mentioned in the interview?
(We gave her a few options and she picked the best one, of course)
Naturally Edward's true love...but isn't just about everyone?

Are you Team Edward, Team Jacob, or have room in your heart for both? I'll have to stand by my man!!!

What do you like about the Twilight Saga?
The romance

Bigger fan of the books or the movie? Why?
Book, more details, leaves a lot of room for the imagination!!

Why are you going to the midnight showing versus staying in your comfy bed?
Bonding with my girlfriends!!

Best vampire trait (in your opinion) and which Cullen family member do you relate to the most?
I do like the idea of having incredible strength and ability to know what's coming down the pike...I think I switch between characters.

More summer fun: Edward's Birthday Bonanza!

On June 20, 1901, our beloved Edward Cullen was born. In honor of his 108th year on Earth, the Adventures in Twilightland gang threw him a birthday bash.

The evening started off with a potluck dinner served beneath a tent decked out in twinkle lights ala the gazebo at prom. All foods brought to the potluck had to have been mentioned somewhere in the Twilight Saga books. Goodies included pizza, lemonade, popcorn, and enchiladas. As you can see below, Edward especially enjoyed the spicy Mexican dish.

As regular readers of this blog know, Edward enjoys an adult beverage or two when he parties, so we made him bartender for the evening. He was over-the-moon filling all sorts of drink orders and allowing us to sample a few concoctions that he has created over the years.
Mint mojitos, anyone?

After all of the party-goers had their fill of dinner, Edward was presented with his birthday cake. He was concerned 108 candles would create a fire hazard and suggested we use just one. Notice the cake is Key lime, one of his favorites. He says it reminds him of the time he briefly lived in Florida during the 1980s. Apparently Edward worked the night shift at Disney World in the ride maintenance department until someone caught him snacking on the animals.

The rest of the evening was filled with talk and laughter. Edward recalled many adventures that happened over his 108 years, though he made us blush by saying all of his best memories occurred after meeting the Twilightland folks. Edward, the feeling is completely mutual.

Edward proving that he truly does prefer brunettes!

Another summer adventure : Lollapalooza 2009

All of us are very aware that Edward is music lover. Not only is he an accomplished pianist, Edward also has quite the singing voice. His musical preferences run the gamut from classical to swing to pop, but even Big T was surprised when Edward requested to tag-along with her to Lollapalooza.

For those of you who don't know, Lollapalooza (or Lolla) is a 3 day music extravaganza in Chicago. Scores of bands perform rap, hip-hop, alternative, and rock music for thousands of fans at stages set-up throughout Grant Park. It tends to be sweltering hot, but the bands that perform make standing in the heat worth the temporary discomfort.

Anyway, Edward was very excited as the day began with an air-conditioned train ride to Chicago. Of course he kept suggesting running all the way as the heat and distance has no effect on him, yet in the end he settled for the train with Big T so he could people watch. She had warned him that people from all walks of life would be converging in Chicago to go to Lolla and he had to witness the phenomenon for himself. He was not disappointed. Teenagers, adults, small children, and even a smattering of senior citizens got aboard the train so they could go party in the park.
After trekking from the train depot to Grant Park, the musical extravaganza could begin! Both Big T and Edward were searched for weapons and other contraband upon entering the gates. Silly people, guns and knives are nothing compared to a vampire's teeth and speed. They then immediately headed off to stake out seats (no pun intended) for the band Vampire Weekend. Those fellas sound great live and had the concert-goers singing along in no time. They even dedicated a song to the memory of John Hughes. Interesting side note: Edward's favorite John Hughes movie is Ferris Bueller.

Next stop was Green Street, an area of the park solely dedicated to environmental information, shopping, and displays. It was a smaller area than in the past, but still had plenty of booths for people to check out. Edward is looking at trading in his Volvo for a hybrid, so he and Big T made sure to look at any information that had to do with emissions and electric versus diesel cars.

After getting their fill of earthy-goodness, Edward dragged Big T off to watch one of his favorite musical artists -Snoop Dogg. The only word one could use to describe Snoop is smooth. Big T asked if he was a vampire, but Edward assured her Snoop is just naturally charismatic, like Jasper. Big T got a giggle when Snoop shouted out props to the hearing impaired interpreters because they even signed his swear words.

The mellow sounds of rap gave way to the Silversun Pickups and then to The Killers. Both excellent bands who had Edward dancing. Especially when The Killers started playing Read My Mind. Goofy vampire.

Since she was exhausted from the day of sun and fun, Edward let Big T ride on his back as he ran to the train station. The ride home was a bit dicey at first due to some drunk teens arguing over which Chicago suburb is cooler, but Edward was quickly able to squelch the squabble. Seriously, this was a real argument on the train, people.

Big T said Edward is a great concert buddy and she would take him again any time, except to a Snoop Dogg show. Seems Edward has been playing Snoop non-stop since he saw him live. Big T should just be thankful it wasn't a Vanilla Ice concert...

Sharing Some Happy News

Big congratulations are in order for two members of the Adventures in Twilightland gang - Big T and Little T officially became aunties last week! Their little niece will be known as Denali on the blog since her real name is the same as one of the book characters. And no, her name was not chosen because it was mentioned in the series.

Never ones to let the chance to introduce people to the world of Twilight pass them by, Big T and Little T played the movie for Denali this weekend. Only a week old, Denali seemed to enjoy the flick, though her aunties are disappointed that she is obviously Team Jacob. Every time Jacob appeared on the screen, Denali made a little grunt or noise. No such luck when Edward popped into view.

Oh, well - at least she seems to be a fan!

First Summer Stop: Drive-in Movie

Big T and Little T are avid drive-in movie fans. They try to go as often as possible in the summer, regardless of the movies that are playing. Edward has heard about this wondrous place from the two of them many times and finally decided that he must partake in the big screen experience.

Totally new to the concept, they had to have a pre-movie meeting. As hard as he tries, Edward can't always master the human act. He would have been perfectly content sitting on the cold ground or standing next to the car through both movies. Might as well put a blinking light over his head that reads, "Vampire".

After he was instructed to gather snuggly blankets, camping chairs, and a couple of pillows to add to the human charade, Edward graciously volunteered to be the snack packer. He remembered that humans like to munch on candy, popcorn, and other goodies during movies, so he packed the car full of junk food and the group was off to the show!

Upon their arrival at the drive-in, Edward got to meet a new friend - Jenny. Jenny, a dear pal of both Big T and Little T, quickly became enamored with the vampire Casanova after he offered her food and blankets and the two of them spent the evening chatting away.

Edward thoroughly enjoyed his night at the drive-in as he was surrounded by beautiful ladies on a star lite night, all while watching "Land of the Lost" and "Night at the Museum" on a giant screen.

Edward passing around the popcorn bowl before the movie begins.

Edward getting his flirt on with Jenny.

Edward Offers his Apologies

The past few months have been busy for us at Adventures in Twilightland. First, we had to figure out who hacked into our system. That horrible mess is finally taken care of, though we can't guarantee that they will never find another way into this blog. I shudder at that possibility. Dumb dog lovers.

Second, Edward has realized that although he will never age, he really needs to start living it up. Not liking to travel alone, Edward dragged us hither and yon this past summer. Besides being constantly on the go, it was a very enjoyable time. I mean, who wouldn't want to spend a majority of their free time with a stunningly gorgeous, super polite, and uber intelligent vampire that is rolling in dough? Exactly.

Well, he has instructed me to post photos and descriptions from our adventures this summer throughout the next few weeks in order to make up for the disasterous werewolf debacle. Enjoy!

My werewolf can kick your vampire's a*$

This gorgeous rendering of my sweetie will be available for sale in October. He comes with a brown shirt, but who would want to cover up all that hotness?
I'll be buying a few of these to have on hand when my Jacob has to run off with his wolf pack. And still no sign of the Team Edward bimbos - ha, ha, ha!

Hunka, hunka burnin' wolf

Rumor has it that the "Edward lovers" who run this blog might be getting suspicious, so I have to post as many wolfy goodies as possible before they figure it out.
Enjoy this picture of my beloved, but keep your paws off of him, girls. Jacob Black is all mine!

Team Jacob!!!!

Edward can suck it!

Hmmmm, how easy is it for a die-hard Jacob Black fan to weasel her way into a bloodsucker lover's Twilight blog? Apparently VERY EASY!

Forget all this lovey-dovey "Edward is the best" crap - bring on the Jacob Black. Until the morons who run this blog decide to check back on their beloved Cullen family, this place with be all wolves, all the time!

Why, hello there, Jacob! What big arm muscles you have. All the better to squeeze me tight to your well-developed chest with!!!! This poster, which features my future husband, was created by a wolf lover like myself. Check out the delicious larger version at fanpop.com.

Know why he looks so sad here? Because he misses me. Yeah, see Jacob Black and I are secretly engaged but I can't tell anybody. He said the wolf pack would get upset. I was all like, "Honey, they are going to know when you turn into a wolf and the pack mind takes over. You said you imprinted on me."

His response was, "You know when I said that I had had a couple of drinks with the guys and I was really tired from running 36 hours straight and I though you were cute and all, but I wouldn't call it imprinting."

Doesn't he have an awesome sense of humor? That just makes me laugh every day when he says it to me.

Stay tuned for more news on my beloved Jacob Black and remember, warm and furry beats cold and sparkly!

GO TEAM JACOB!!!!!!

Oh, the horror!

Ok, maybe I shouldn't be the one posting this as I am rather anti-Barbie and just the sight of these dolls causes my stomach to curdle, but this particular version of Barbie is so ridiculous (says one of the girls who is obsessed with make-believe vampires) that I must share this information with you.

The Edward and Bella Barbie dolls are available for pre-order on the Canadian Toys R Us website. Delivery of these nausea-inducing figures begins in October of this year. Here is the description from the website:

And so the lion fell in love with the lamb.Twilight has quickly become a worldwide phenomenon developing a strong core base of dedicated fans who are drawn to the story of a Romeo & Juliet style romance between mortal (Bella) and vampire (Edward). Who better to capture the young star-crossed love of these two characters than Barbie & Ken. Edward is luminescent with a shimmering complexion and trademark gold eyes. Bella doll sold separately.

Notice the line in red. Can we say inflated ego? So dear readers, I have a challenge for you. What other kinds of dolls would be a better representation of Bella and Edward?

Listen to This!

Little T and Big T are loving this song! Created by the band Oh, Hush!, this song exemplifies the Bella/Jacob dynamic. These guys have an album for sale on iTunes that doesn't include this song (boo), but it contains other great ditties. Word of warning: this song is VERY addicting!

Twitter

Yes, we got the Twitter all set up, however, we don't know how often we will use it now that Peter Facinelli has won the bet!!! You can follow us www.twitter.com/twilightland.

Etsy Store

Um, not done yet. Big T has been doing a lot of homework (she should be doing it right now but is taking a quick break) and Little T has been busy, too. We will shoot for having it open this weekend.

Watch This!

This killer video was created by Rebellious Pixels. As I am an avid Buffy and Twilight fan, I couldn't resist posting this. You have to admit that it is kind of funny, even if we don't all agree with the ending :)

Twilight Tidbits

Twitter

If you have a Twitter account, go sign up to follow Peter Facinelli (Carlisle)! If he reaches 500,000 followers by June 19, his friend has to walk around LA wearing an itsy bitsy yellow polka dot bikini. Did I mention this is a male friend? If poor Peter can't make his goal, he has to sacrifice his Twilight actor's chair to his pal who may do unspeakable things to it.

Twilight Board Game

Big T and Little T played the Twilight board game last night and the consensus was... blech! Totally not fun. The game is based only on the movie and Big T kept answering the trivia with info from the book. Could be good for a giggle, but only because of the cheese factor. Big T and Little T are already brainstorming ways to make a wicked cool New Moon board game - based on the book!

Merchandise

Be on the lookout for Adventures in Twilightland merchandise at Etsy.com. We are opening a store to help pay for a pilgrimage to the motherland - Forks, Washington. Every purchase will help. We hope to have it up and running by next weekend at http://www.adventuresintwilight.etsy.com/.

Belated Birthday Wishes

Adventures in Twilightland's Little T recently celebrated her birthday. She was gallivanting across the South with Edward in tow, so look ahead to seeing some pics of their travels soon.

Next Spotlight
Please let us know what vampire you'd like us to spotlight next. Remember, we've already done Alice and Jasper. We wouldn't be opposed to non-vamp suggestions, either :)

Best of Both Worlds

If you have ever met Big T, then you probably know about Etsy. No, it is not a disease - it is the BEST WEBSITE EVER! Etsy.com allows people to buy and sell handmade and vintage items. Big T loves the site so much that if Etsy were a man, she would be married to it and have dozens of crafty little babies.

While on one of her almost daily trolls of Etsy, Big T decided to do a Twilight search and came up with these interesting picks. A crafting site that sells Twilighty goodness - what could be more perfect?

Yes, the picture sucks - deal with it. Go order this coffee cozy right now from fezfactiry.etsy.com! There are more Twilight styles to choose from, but remember to give Jasper some love. For those of you that can't decipher the words: Do that again and I will so give you a paper cut right in front of Jasper.

Pair these hand-painted shoes from alcat2021.etsy.com with the shirt listed below and you will be the Bella of the ball at this summer's Twi-Con! Other quotes and shoe colors are available.

So even Blythe doll collector's are Twilight fans! This four pack of shirts is available at JennyCouture.etsy.com. Bet you could squeeze one of these bad boys on a small dog or cat, maybe even a neighborhood squirrel... yeah, a whole Edward Cullen army of squirrels! Sorry, drifted off there.
OME! You can get a personalized New Moon poster with your face in place of Bella's at MyMagicMe.etsy.com. You send in a pic and get a file back so it appears as if you are in the movie. Perhaps some fellas might even want to get in on this and become Edward or Jacob (have you seen Jacob's arms lately? Hot!).

This hooded shirt is available at XPoppysWickedGardenX.etsy.com. She takes clothes and reconstructs them to make them even more awesome than they were originally. With the hood and long sleeves, it'd be a great shirt to wear on November 20.

Custom Edward Cullen stamp available at dragonflycurls.etsy.com. Put Edward's face all over your books, clothes, walls - the sky's the limit! I wonder how hard it was to sculpt a bouffant into a stamp...

Field Trippin'

Edward recently went on a school field trip to Quebec, Canada. He and his classmates got to discover the sights and sounds of Quebec City and Montreal for 4 days. Big T was actually asked to accompany the group as a chaperon and provided us with some pictures of Edward's adventures.
The students were not allowed to bring any kind of electronic devices on the trip besides cameras, so Edward had to check-in with the other Cullens via pay phone.

Getting to visit Parc de la Chute Montmorency was a trip highlight for Edward. He said years before he and Emmett had summer jobs in the area thinning forests for the paper industry. Apparently the boys would often visit the falls so they could ride over the edge into the water below. He tried to convince Big T to sneak back with him at night to give it a try, however, she politely declined. After all, she is merely a human.

One of Big T's favorite stops on the trip was the Biodome in Montreal. She had to stick to Edward like glue on the walk through each of the different environments in order to keep him from grabbing an animal to munch on. She suspects he probably managed to sneak a few nibbles since she had to drag him out of more than one fish tank during their tour.

Edward was a great tour guide in Montreal. Since he actually attended the 1976 Olympic Games, he was able to tell Big T all sorts of facts about the stadium and the impact the games had on the city as a whole. Of course he had to brag about the fact that none of the athletes that had competed would have been able to hold their own against a vampire, but he still enjoyed watching people from different nations come together with a common goal.

Edward's group spent a great deal of time on their tour bus. From Montreal to Quebec City was a three hour ride, not to mention the various stops in and around both cities. It was hard for Edward to be on the bus for long stretches of time, all the while pretending to be your average teenage boy. To remain inconspicuous, Edward channeled his inner teen human and would draw on sleeping kid's faces and sneak up on people to scare them while they were distracted.

The autophile forced Big T to snap a pic of him near the grill of the tour bus. Who knew they made Mercedes Benz buses?

Spotlight on ... Jasper

Jasper is our next featured Cullen vampire for two reasons. You can't have Alice without her Jasper hovering in the vicinity and he happens to be Big C's favorite bloodsucker. She is particularly fond of the the movie version Jasper's tormented facial expressions. If you ever see Big C on the street, ask her to do a Jasper impression. It's quite good with all of the pain and bugged out eyes.

While Little T and I were chit-chatting about this post yesterday we decided that one of the traits we admire most about Jasper is his untamed nature. Yes, he can suppress that blood lust urge sometimes, but his control could be gone in a flash. Need I remind you of the birthday party incident?

Out of all of the Cullens, Jasper is the most flawed and that is hugely appealing to me because it allows you to relate to his character. In a world of perfect creatures, he is unique. Jazz (as his family sometimes calls him) is the only one in his clan who is an exceptionally skilled fighter and does not shun violence the way the rest of the family tends to do. Jasper is all about the intimidation, which again, isn't in line with the majority of his family's beliefs. To the human eye he is still rather beautiful, but vampires find him scarred, mutilated, and the mere sight of his battle ravaged body causes other vamps to become protective and defensive.

Though he needs to deal with all of that, he still has his Alice. That undying devotion and connection he maintains with Alice is a HUGE reason why all of the Adventures in Twilightland girls like Jasper. How can you not like a guy who cares more about making sure his true love is safe during a mega battle than he does for his own safety? And we don't know how he does it, but you will barely ever find Alice out of Jasper's reach. Any time a problem pops up - Bam! - he is there for his special lady.

The ability to control and sense emotions is another unique trait Jasper possesses. Alice is a special girl, so you can't expect anything less from her sweetie. He was able to help during all the Bella drama many times by temporarily soothing her and sensing the emotional climate of others. I'm thinking Jasper has to be pretty emotionally strong in order to process all the negative feelings he has to deal with from others. I wonder if he ever learned to block it out the way Edward does with his mind reading....

So next time you are reading your Twilight saga books, remember to give Jasper a little more love.

Equal opportunity vampire lover

Oh Edward, how I adore thee! But alas, you were not my first vampire love. No, long before you became the object of desire for thousands of swooning females, my heart belonged to another creature of the night - Angel.

Angel, the original brooding vampire with a conscious, who was hopelessly in love with a human girl, the Vampire Slayer no less. With his long duster coat, wickedly sarcastic sense of humor, and smoldering gaze, sigh - what girl didn't dig him?

I watched him deal with the Slayer and friends on "Buffy" and enjoyed his eponymously named television show. How could you not get a kick out his squabbles with Spike? And the tortuous love affair with Buffy - dude, I cried when she had to send him to Hell just as he got his soul back. And the time when he got to briefly experience life as a human again with Buffy only to have her and the rest of the world forget it happened - sob! In my mind, he and Buffy end up together some day. Joss Whedon, I know you are busy with "Doll House", but get crackin' on my dream, man!

Even though the shows are off the air, I still got my Angel fix with a little help from DVDs. The giant Buffy/Angel poster that one of my sisters bought for me and the cardboard cut-out of Angel a friend gave me provided the strength I needed to soldier on.

Then I discovered Edward and the Cullens. It started with me begrudgingly reading the first book at the absolute insistence of my younger sister. I am a stubborn cuss and finally gave in one day. "You'll really like it," she said. "Not likely," I thought.

As with most people, I do not enjoy admitting when I am wrong. But in this case... I was SO VERY WRONG!

The first book sucked me in and I read straight through so I was done within a day. I got the occasional call from my sister, Little T, to see what part I was at. We would chat for a minute and then I'd dive back in, relishing the story. I was hooked and there was no looking back. Of course I wanted to continue with the rest of the series, but no, I had classes that needed to be finished, so I had Little T make sure to take the copy of New Moon I purchased and hide it for me. Once free of college coursework, right back to Forks, Washington for me. After taking three consecutive days of my Winter Break to power through all of Bella and Edward's triumphs and tribulations, my brain was mush and full of vampire goodness.

There are many, many differences between traditional vamp stories and the world Stephenie Meyer created. Yes, I lean towards the more well-known vampire ideas that sunlight equals Kentucky fried deadness and little pieces of sharp wood are not a bloodsuckers best friend. But really, who cares if someone adds something different to the folklore mix?

And so I sit atop this fence with my Buffy/Angel gang on one side and my Bella/Edward clan on the other. It can be a struggle sometimes to balance my devotion when having a friendly debate with fellow Twilight or Buffy fans, but that is the burden I have to bear. Though, I wouldn't mind if Joss and Stephenie decided to do a little collaborating some day. Imagine it...a tablespoon of singing, a cup of sarcasm, a healthy dash of gut-wrenching drama, and a pop culture reference or two wrapped up in a yummy vampiric shell. What more could a vampire fan (Twilight or otherwise) ask for?

Spotlight on ... Alice

Besides Edward, both Little T and I agree that Alice is our favorite Cullen. From her delicate elfin face and artfully spiked hair to her graceful movements and trendy designer outfits, Alice is one awesome vamp chick.

I think the element of Alice's persona that causes us to gravitate towards her is her kind nature. She was a sweetheart to Bella from the start. Of course knowing that you are probably going to end up being someone's best friend does kind of taint the act of kindness, but not too much.

Even though she is a vampire who cannot recall her mortal life, she embraces every "normal" moment she can. Whether that involves throwing an over-the-top graduation party, subjecting a girlfriend to endless hours of beautification, or spending a day shopping for clothes, Alice zealously attacks each human situation with glee.

The fact that Alice can see glimpses of the future is pretty neat and all, but the way she handles that pressure is much more admirable. She knew she might become bffs with Bella, but there was always the potential of her dear brother munching on the poor girl first. That had to be stressful, biding your time to see if your sibling would find true love and let you become pals with his new girl or would he have an all-you-can-eat Bella feast and cause his whole family to relocate.

I could go on and on about what a fantastic character Alice Cullen is - I really could . Instead I'll leave you with a few of the many reasons to love Alice.

1. She's got mad chess skills - who else could beat Edward?

2. Her idea of a small party involves a disco dance floor and a giant sound system.

3. No one can sweet talk a parent like Alice.

4. She doesn't take crap from anybody, not even Rosalie.

5. Alice loves her some designer clothes and will try to give anything that sits still a makeover.

And he's dancin' like he's never danced before...

Big T's co-workers recently threw her a surprise Golden Birthday party and they thoughtfully invited Edward.

Never one to turn down a party invitation, Edward arrived ready to rock. His island attire was perfectly suited for the luau-themed gathering and he wasted no time by immediately joining in the birthday festivities.

Edward insisted he get a pic with the birthday girl while he took a dance break. Who knew the fang boy liked to boogie?

As witnessed during our Polynesian getaway, Edward is not one to let an evening end early. So after the party broke up, he took Big T and a few friends to a local hot spot. Big T is not a big drinker (she prefers her pina coladas sans alcohol), but she did humor Edward by making a birthday wish on his flaming shots and blowing them out before he slammed them back.

After the Adventures in Twilightland gang saw Edward's behavior during this birthday bash, we can only imagine what he'll do in June when we celebrate Little T's big day.

Tidbits

Edward knows how to rock out!
Exclusive footage of Edward bustin' a move at Big T's Golden Birthday celebration coming soon!

Voting news
Seems that the vast majority of our blog readers feel Chuck Norris could kick Edward's butt if they ever had to throw down. Chuck Norris just defies all laws of man and the undead.
Full disclosure: I voted for Angel and he even got more votes than Edward! Guess we feel Edward is more of a lover than a fighter. And Twi-hards don't be hatin' on me - this Twilighter's heart has plenty of room for Buffy and the gang, as well as the Cullens. We just have to make sure all pointy sticks and other weapons are left at the door when the two groups mingle.

Reader Interaction
We would like to remind our readers that comments are welcomed and encouraged - Roy, I'm looking at you!

Vacation Fun Continued

After a fun-filled evening, we all set off for the beach early the next morning. Lucky for us, it was unseasonably cold and cloudy so Edward could hang out. He insisted on bringing his "American Idol" towel and spent the morning going on and on about some Adam Lambert guy.

The sun came out for awhile so Little T quickly buried Edward in order to avoid a sparkling incident.

Edward serenaded Big T with the song "Just the Two of Us" while they built sandcastles together, although not in the sky.

Next stop was the local aquarium. It was not a good idea to bring a vampire with us since their presence scares away fish. All we ended up seeing was a bunch of underwater plants.

Our group decided to enjoy some night life at a local club where Edward got his freak on cage dancing.

Once again, Edward indulged in a few too many beverages. We learned Edward tends to get a little rough when he has tipped some back as he kept trying to manhandle J Man.
At the end of the evening we couldn't locate Edward anywhere until we went behind the club. There we found him involved in an illegal giant lizard/vampire wrestling contest. Edward was the odds on favorite, but his judgement was a little impaired after all the partying which caused him to stop in the middle of the match so he could get snuggly with Godzilla.

All in all, it was a fantastic vacation and we learned a lot about our favorite angst-ridden vampire, including his fondness for pop music, melodramatic movies, and adult beverages.
Edward was unaware that we were filming, but here he is trying to escape from Godzilla. Apparently the monster didn't know Edward isn't really into giant lizards and misinterpreted the cuddling.
